Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Sale Sharks have announced the signing of Samoa international flanker TJ Ioane on a short term deal until the end of the season.
The 25 year old Samoan had been plying his trade with the Highlanders of the Super Rugby XV and playing provincially for Otago since 2011 and his transfer could be seen as a sort of a coup for the English club as several clubs were reported to be interested in signing him.
Ioane is a highly versatile player, capable of playing in a number of positions, especially at number eight. He made his debut for the national team against Canada last November and was a part of the Samoan side that lost to England at Twickenham Stoop. (more…)

Sale got an early Christmas present as the hooker of the team Tommy Taylor extended his contract for another year. The 22 year old is supposed to feature this year for the sharks after the knee surgery that he underwent this summer. He is going to return early in the New Year.
Tommy has long been projected as the English star having a lot of potential and maybe a star for future England. This has made a huge impact on the Sale Sharks as they landed a 6th position last season.
The news of the renewal of the deal is the kind of news that the director of Rugby Steve Diamond wanted to hear before the team faces a crucial match at Premiership against Exeter.
There is more hope that there will be more positive news about contracts for Sale as Diamond hopes to get some more new deals from several other players of his team who are out of contracts. These players include Danny Cipriani.
Diamond says that it is really great for them that Tommy has agreed to extend his contract for a year as he is a great player with very bright talent. Even though he got an injury while playing for England in the match against Barbarians last May, he has recovered from the injury now and they cannot wait for him to get back on the field now. Since he has given them one more year, they have agreed to see where he stands in a year’s time as per his career.
Even though Diamond is busy doing the retention talks, he is also taking small steps to his recruitment drive. He is thought to be very close to closing deals for a forward of Southern Hemisphere who has the experience of Super Rugby.
