Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Sale Sharks have added another significant player to their squad ahead of next season with the signing of promising young playmaker Joe Ford from the Rugby Football Championship club Leeds Carnegie. Born in Oldham, Ford is the son of legendary former Rugby League player and England Rugby Union coach Mike Ford and the older brother of playmaker George, who has gone on to establish himself as one of the best playmakers in the country.
And Joe himself has been tipped to have a long and promising career for himself in the top flight and was a very important player in Leeds’s run in to the play-offs of the RFU Championship this season. Ford spent a season with the Northampton Saints, the rivals of the Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership before he returned to play for Leeds in the RFU Championship and is a player that Steve Diamond, the Director of Rugby of the club has scouted for a long time.
Given the fact that he is a versatile player and can also play at full back and is also quite adept at using his boot, Diamond will be doing good to use his versatility during next season’s Aviva Premiership after struggling throughout this season with the lack of a strong playmaker and kicker. Ian Blackhurst, the co-owner of the club spoke to the media about the club’s new signing and stated that it is a great signing and Joe is a very exciting player.
He mentioned that the player had been absolutely brilliant for Leeds in their run-up to the play-offs of the RFU Championship and the Sale Sharks are hopeful that he can bring some of that to the Aviva Premiership and their game as well, and lead the club from the front.
